Grease contains high viscosity which characteristics is most beneficial in various applicants of shear, drops to give the effect of an oil-lubricated bearing of approximately the same viscosity as the base oil used in the grease.  Examples of grease are  petroleum jellies such as Vaseline are not generally classified as greases.

Fluid lubricants (Oils) Dry Lubricants

Basically it is used to improve the film formation as these lubricants have extreme pressure properties. Examples  are lubricants are tallow, castor oil and fish oil.

Classification of lubricants by application

Motor Oil

It is the most common oil which is used for internal combustion engines, as well as cars, motorcycles, lawnmowers, engine-generators also with other machines. In engines, it helps to convert kinetic energy to heat.

Gear oils

Gear oil is one of the important classification of lubricant oils. it is one of the most common lubricant which is used in  transmissions, transfer cases as well as differentials in automobiles, trucks, and other machinery.

Hydraulic oils
